Managing a World Class Tube for a World Class City: Lessons from Philadelphia's Own

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the British American Business Council are proud to host Tim O'Toole, Managing Director of the London Underground Railway system with an18-year tenure as a Philadelphia rail executive. Hours after London delivered its complex transportation management plan, instrumental in London's successful bid for the 2010 Olympics, the world witnessed a series of disastrous bombings launched by a terrorist group that compromised the underground tubes. Hired to modernize the oldest and one of the largest subway systems in the world, Mr. O'Toole quickly effected lessons in leadership under immense pressure, crisis management, and unyielding courage in the face of international terrorism. Mr. O'Toole will share his trans-Atlantic insight and intimate perspective on major metropolitan transportations systems, and address issues of preparedness, security, and recovery efforts in an era of terrorist threats and increased surveillance. In addition, Mr. O'Toole will draw parallels between the Greater Philadelphia region and London, England, addressing the need for infrastructure management and contingency planning as Philadelphia embarks upon its own bid for the 2016 Olympics.
